Each member of the Order pays annual dues (oblations). Most of these funds are directed to charities that support our mission. A small amount is used for necessary administrative costs. There are no paid staff, and all volunteer leaders work from their residences at no cost to the Order.
Oblations range from $ 70 Cdn to $125 Cdn per year, depending on one’s rank. The Oblations are pooled in the Knights Hospitaller Foundation and donated to local charities of the Commanderies’ choosing.
Recipients of these donations are discussed and chosen at the Commandery Annual General Meeting. Commandery dues ($ 25 Cdn, and part of the total oblations) are levied annually.
Oblations are tax-deductible. We are a registered charity: the Knights Hospitaller Foundation is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. As a public foundation, our charitable registration number is 118984509RR0001.
If you fail to pay your Oblations, you are demitted from the Order. Once you have been demitted, you are no longer entitled to wear any insignia of the Order. If you have difficulty paying your Oblations, please speak with your Commander.
