The Process of a Pilgrimage

What does a pilgrim do upon arrival at the special site?

At every pilgrimage location, contemplate how you might improve yourself to mankind and be of service to others. Ponder your relationship with Christ our Lord, and renew yourself to Christian Chivalry.

  • At a church or a tomb: Offer a prayer of thanksgiving for the role of that individual for the past service to the Hospitaller Order of Saint John.

  • At a ruin: Meditate on how it must have been in the time in which the event took place at the location.

  • At a HOSJ headquarters: Sign the guest book if it is provided.

Prayer at a site:

O God, our refuge and strength, you who are the source of all devotion, listen to my prayer; grant that this journey may broaden my understanding, strengthen my faith, and make me more compassionate in my response to those who are in need; make me worthy of the calling which I share with the Knights of Saint John who inhabited this place and who are my constant examples of the service of Christ on behalf of man kind; make me worthy of their sacrifices, and grant that what I ask in faith, I may obtain in fact. I ask this through the Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
